3 Out Of 4 Spaniards Agree With The Climate Strike

A survey indicates that 67% of Spaniards are very concerned about global warming and 65% believe that politicians should do plus.

On November 10 there will be general elections in Spain, but will the fight against climate change occupy any place in the debate between parties? If not, it should, because 67% of Spaniards are very concerned about the issue , according to a survey conducted by the Empirica company for the ClicKoala portal.

The study was carried out from a sample of 1,000 people representative of the Spanish population between August 30 and September 7, before the UN Climate Action Summit (September 23) and the Strike took place. World Cup for Climate (next September 27).

Young people, especially concerned about the weather

As in the rest of the world, young people are especially concerned. Between 16 and 30 years of age, those who are very concerned about the evolution of the climate add up to 78%. The “deniers” in Spain represent only 5% who do not feel alarmed by the situation on the planet.

In relation to the Global Climate Strike, which will be held next Friday, three out of four respondents answer that they are very in favor (44%) or in favor (31%).

Other environmental problems that concern Spaniards are the excess of plastics (very worrying for 66% of citizens), the extinction of species (63%) and pollution (59%).

Politicians would have to do much more

Empirica’s fieldwork shows that Spaniards believe that politicians should do much more against the climate emergency. Only 1% believe they are doing well.

On the other hand, the voters who ask more of their representatives in the environmental field are Podemos (82% believe that politicians should do much more) and the least demanding in environmental policies are the voters of Vox, with 45%.

27% say that when voting for a political party they highly value their proposals in the field of ecology.

Sustainable consumption

Beyond politics, 39% of Spaniards define themselves as respectful of the environment and try to live sustainably.

Thus, 37% try not to buy products with unnecessary packaging or single-use plastics, 22% like to buy second-hand products and 18% normally buy local products.
